This Is my world...

Today I thought I'd do something a bit different... It's open studios across the North Yorkshire this week, artists throw open their doors and invite the world in to see the place where the magic happens... I've only had my studio space a few weeks and it's in my flat on the top floor so I can't invite the world in... instead I have made you a little tour over on flickr...

The Studio Tour

20 pictures of the place I spend the vast majority or my time... please visit my studio... each picture has notes or a description so feel free to click thru them all and leave notes where ever you like... and all the time I had a song in my head... which was this

"This is my house
And I live in it
It’s made of cracks
And photographs
We rent it off a guy who bought it from a guy
Who bought it from a guy
Whose grandad left it to him
And the weirdest thing is that this house
Has locks to keep the baddies out
But they’re mostly used to lock ourselves in

This is my house
And it’s fine
It’s where I spend the vast majority of my time
It’s not perfect
But it’s mine
It’s not perfect
But it's mine"

Tim Minchin, one of my favorit comedians sings it and you can hear it here

OMG one of my favourite songs EVER!!!! I even have a painting named after it. :) ("Where I spend the vast majority of my time")

However I'm slightly disappointed that you aren't actually a felt owl living in a felt tree and felt nest.

I love Tim Minchin! And I also love seeing where all the felties live!

That's a pretty cool space, Melanie. Is it just a dedicated studio - if so you're very lucky - it's about twice the size of mine!!
Lovely to see where you work. Was hoping to "meet the Gocco" though -but only saw the dead bulbs... I never did see a Gocco (and I want to have one sooo much!).
I loved your collection of bits & pieces, pictures, postcards, creatures etc. And your Rob Ryan calendar - jealous!
Great place to work - what a view you have from the window!

Thanks for sharing that with us! I had such fun taking a peek in your studio and also loved the in-progress owl picture.

I also love that you keep all sorts of pretty things in your bookshelves, I do that too and it's lovely seeing someone else's treasures there;)

I really enjoyed that. I have serious light envy. My 'studio' is in the back room of my OH's industrial unit. While I really truly appreciate the space he has turned over to me, the room has not a single window to the outside world. So it's been nicknamed my dungeon :P As a result most drawing is done at home and my sewing/painting is done in the dungeon :)

I especially loved nosing through your bookshelves and have to totally agree with your 'books are your cocaine' statement :)

I always love seeing where people work - there's something special about creative spaces (although mine is like a jumble sale atm!).

Love your felting & your blog so have sent you a little award - more details over on my blog
